Died at sea on SS Northfield off Lundy Island

The SS Northfield was 2,099 grt, defensively armed, sunk 3rd March 1918 25 miles SW from Lundy Island. It was torpedoed without warning by a sub. 15 lives were lost including the Master.

1901 by Tyne Iron SB. Co., Ltd, Newcastle (yard No.133) for Northfield SS
Co., Ltd (J. Ruthen & Co), London. 1902 same owner, managed by E. Jones &
Co. 1903 Field Line (Cardiff) Ltd, same manager. 1915 Keep SS & Lighterage
Co (Harry Keep), London. 1918 Harry Keep. London. 3rd Mar.1918 torpedoed and
sunk 25 miles SW of Lundy Island by U.60 on voyage Glasgow to Devonport with
coal with the loss of 15 lives.
